Did you know that the revised Guidelines eliminate the minimum threshold for fineness for the use of the terms “silver” and “gold”? Do you know what this will mean to your repair and design business? On July 24, 2018, the Federal Trade Commission released the final revision to its guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries (16CFR Part 23). The changes took effect immediately. Changes include the minimum threshold for fineness in “gold” and”silver.” Know these changes so that you can help your customer make the right choices in their jewelry purchases. Other revisions to the Guidelines include terms to describe man-made diamonds, a change to the definition of diamond, and treatment disclosures. Topics will be covered as time allows.
