Learning from the couch has never been easier. Experts will discuss transforming business in the time of COVID-19
Clientbook, The Smithee Group, and Punchmark: three companies serving the sales, marketing, and communications needs of the jewelry industry, are presenting The Couch Conference, a digital summit, which will take place April 16-17, from noon to 3:30 pm EDT. Speakers at the conference will include thought leaders from both inside and outside the jewelry industry, including many retailers.
Sessions are 15-20 minutes long, with Q&A to follow, in a video-based live webinar format. Multiple tracks and sessions, retailer roundtables, and breakout sessions will be available for attendees to join upon registration.
Registration for the conference is $10, and all proceeds will go to Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies.
RESET is the conference’s theme. “Attendees should view The Couch Conference as a chance to transform your mindset, rethink your business strategy, and prepare for what you can do to navigate toward greater success – all from the comfort of your couch,” says Ben Smithee, CEO of The Smithee Group.
The conference is a response to the cancellations of all major jewelry trade shows and conferences normally taking place this spring and summer, due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. “The conference will allow speakers to share innovations. Attendees can also network, trade ideas, and build community during this time of social distancing,” say the organizers. “The goal is to help business owners become better leaders and grow their businesses.”
“We want it to be fun, casual, and different from other available events – while still adding a tremendous amount of value,” says Ryan Blumenthal, VP of business development of Clientbook and jewelry store owner of Corinne Jewelers, Toms River, NJ.
Attendees of the conference are nicknamed Couch Potatoes, while speakers are dubbed Spuds. As with on-site conferences, there will be giveaways for attendees, and even social Happy Hour occasions, called “Spuds and Buds.”
The Couch Conference will feature a number of leading retail jewelers who have instituted innovative strategies for their stores, as well as a number of well-known consultants who help jewelers build business. Speakers also include industry leaders such as Caryl Capeci, CEO of Chow Tai Fook North America and president of Hearts on Fire; John Carter, president of the American Gem Society, Tiffany Stevens, CEO, president, and general counsel of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and Jennifer Markas, executive director of the Women’s Jewelry Association.
