Mediation Services For Consumers and Businesses
JVC is available to assist consumers and members of the jewelry trade with jewelry purchase-related disputes through our Mediation program.
JVC’s Mediation Program is recognized by the Federal Trade Commission and other government agencies. Our program provides people and businesses with a forum for alternative dispute resolution and is the only program of its type available exclusively for jewelry-related disputes.
*Please use our free complaint tool below to submit your initial mediation complaint. Once submitted, a JVC Mediation team member will reply within 2 weeks. Mediation services are available based upon JVC’s resources and eligible submissions with viable claims and supporting evidence. Submitting a complaint for Mediation does not guarantee JVC will assist in resolving your dispute.
What is mediation?
Mediation is the attempt to settle a legal dispute through active participation of a third party (mediator) who works to find points of agreement and make those in conflict agree on a fair results.
Through the JVC Mediation Program, industry members and consumers may use JVC as an impartial mediator. The JVC is not a law firm, thus none of its staff will represent any mediation dispute party as legal counsel. JVC can simply works with both parties to help them reach a fair resolution to their dispute.
Should I mediate my dispute?
Like any Mediation Program, JVC’s Mediation Program has its pros and cons. First, mediation saves both parties time, money and energy in comparison to litigation or other forms of dispute resolution. Second, JVC’s unique 100+ years in the jewelry industry has equipped it with knowledge of the jewelry industry and products offered that far exceeds the knowledge of many non-industry attorneys and/or dispute negotiators. Thus, JVC’s staff has specialized knowledge that allows it to knowledgeably communicate with mediation parties.
Finally, parties should keep in mind that mediation is completely voluntary, which means it can be risky. While many of our mediations have ended with a fair settlement for both parties, not all parties are able to come to an agreement. In the case of a failed mediation, the JVC may still be able to assist parties in resolving their disputes through other methods.
How do I sign up for the program?
To be considered for the Mediation Program, please read the following steps and act accordingly:
- Submit your complaint through our online form available here. Please keep the complaint concise and limit it to 3 pages or less.
- Once your complaint is reviewed, you will be contacted to submit documents that support any allegations made in the complaint. This does not guarantee that the JVC will take your case for mediation.
- Once the required documentation is submitted and reviewed, you will be informed whether your case has been selected for mediation. If so, you will then be asked to submit a one-time fee to offset administrative costs. This fee varies depending on the type of dispute and party who submits the initial complaint.
